7. The Roero and Monferrato, UNESCO world Heritage….
Monticello d'Alba CN, Italia

Piemonte – Alba

The Castle of Monticello d’Alba, one of the best preserved medieval buildings in the Region, has been owned and lived in by the Roero family for over five hundred years, since 1372.
Furthermore the castle is located just a few miles from Alba, one of the most relevant wine and food areas in Piedmont, recently recognized as UNESCO Heritage.
In 1827 Xavier Kurten very famous garden architect coming from Colonia, author of the transformation of gardens and parks of the Dukes of Savoia Residences, presents a new layout of Monticello garden. The project was influenced by the romantic English design consisting of tall trees, by paths, ponds and small woods. The current park that extends all around the hill corresponds to the original design of Kurten. In this park it will be possible, during the truffle season, to wander around looking for truffles!
