Design and Sustainability at the heart of Prosecco

For four centuries the Bottega family have demonstrated their great passion for viticulture, since the seventeenth century when their founder, Andrea Bottega, cultivated vines on the hills of Refrontolo in the heart of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG region. Today the quality of Bottega wines and spirits is recognized throughout the world. Bottega wines and spirits have received over 280 prizes and awards, and can be found in 132 countries and in the most important duty-free shops and airline companies around the world. Bottega Gold sparkling wine is the most widely sold in travel retail. They are located in Bibano di Godega di Sant’Urbano, only 50 km from Venice, near Conegliano Veneto. Their headquarters is a large seventeenth-century farmhouse, which was renovated in full compliance with the most advanced environmental protection criteria and is surrounded by 10 hectares of vineyards. In the spirit of family tradition, the winery was added to the distillery and the Prosecco Il Vino dei Poeti was born. I am welcomed by Sandro Bottega who runs the company assisted by the brothers Barbara and Stefano. Full of energy and ease, Sandro recounts the story of the family, its territory and products, which is both captivating and fascinating. He is a born inventor, creating the company’s distinctive packaging and modernizing the distillation process to reduce the alcohol content of his grappa, making it softer and more delicate. I greatly admired the Prosecco in the Gold bottle and I recommend tasting the Bitter and the three Vermouths which I helped create and design with Sandro. Make sure you drink them straight, on the rocks or in strictly traditional cocktails! Why? Because their aromas are unique and especially characteristic of the wines which are typical of the Venice D.O.C. region, namely Merlot, Pinot Grigio and the hybrid Manzoni. Sandro is both intriguing and multifaceted, and is the mind behind a selection of other excellent products including wines from the Montalcino, Valpolicella and Chianti regions, together with a full range of grappas, creams and liqueurs, each having unique and distinctive flavors.
