Only a stone’s throw from the Quadrilatero della Moda, Milan’s fashion district, stands Palazzo Crivelli. Overlooking the Sforzesco Castle, this stately home is the historic base of the auction house Casa d’Aste Il Ponte with whom I have been collaborating for years. The Palazzo, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious buildings of the 1700s, is named after its owner, the Marquess Crivelli, from a long-standing line of Milanese aristocrats. The Palazzo, which was built between 1658 and 1705, is characterized by a sober and elegant façade with an “Andalusian” style balcony with forged iron balustrade above its main door on Via Pontaccio. Stepping through the main door, beyond the frescoed rooms and sumptuous staircase, you come upon the hushed courtyard gallery and the incredible garden, exceptional both in size and opulence. The Palazzo’s outdoor spaces can regularly host exhibitions, conferences, shows, fashion shows, photographic sets, presentations and more, guaranteeing an environment which is sophisticated and elegant, yet discreet. For those whose curiosity has been aroused and wish to visit the Palazzo, I recommend attending the auction previews which are held there in spring and autumn: by browsing the online catalog at www.ponteonline.com you can choose which preview best suits your individual tastes, thus combining the experience of visiting this beautiful stately home with that of the Auction Exhibition which, believe me, is always a truly special event!
